INSTRUCTIONS & COMMENTARY
Leave Smith Lake and carry on south on Hwy 250.



Turn left on 358 Trl.

Watch for the large sign: Berndt Cattle Company. On some old maps, the road is called Smith Lake Rd.




Twelve and half miles through pleasant rolling hills brings you to Hwy 27; Turn right heading south; another old tour sign (80) will be visible nearby


Turn left on to 365 Trl; this is a gravel road, bumpy but sound. It takes you along the side of a lake (watch for waterfowl) and past the Jones Ranch on your left.

Turn left on to 181 Trl - the Mari Sandoz Memorial Drive; look for Deer Meadows Outfitters sign.


Mari's grave and the Orchard Place are not far ahead.



The Orchard Place is where Old Jules had to blow part of his hand off with a shotgun when he got bitten by a rattlesnake.
